The Role of Quality of Life Judgments in Medical Treatment Decision Making
The American Medical Association Code of Medical Ethics speaks about quality of life from the perspective of the patient, including when decisions are made by surrogate decision makers. Pope St. John Paul II's 1995 encyclical Evangelion Vitei says it's a letter on life issues. There seems to be some concern in Catholic circles that quality of life judgments are maybe inherently unethical.
