Nft advocates claimed that their magical crypto nonsense was the solution to the problems artists faced in getting paid. As soon as nfts went viral and money started pouring in, scammers began stealing the work of artists to sell unauthorized nfts. A verges investigation found that fraud was common in nft markets due to the fact that none of the major exchanges required people to actually own the works they were selling. It's a market ripe for fraud, you might say.
