Is the UN Saying Climate Refugees Should Be Recognized?
Currently there's no real legal recognition for people who've been forced to migrate as a result of climate change. There are increasing conversations about whether that should change. The UN Human Rights Committee ruled in the case of Yuani Teziota two years ago. He and his wife and kids had applied for asylum in New Zealand, but New Zealand deported them back to Kiribas.
