To get the show on the road means to start to begin. I imagine that expression comes from the fact that many years ago or centuries ago, many cultural events like the circus and things like that, they traveled around the country. So it's the end of the road for you, my friend. Now, that could mean literally, but more often it's meant idiomatically, it just means it's over, it's the finish.
