I think because Martha has a sister in the novel called Ingrid and they're very, very close. And what I really loved and wanted to show in Ingrid is that she thinks the best of Martha at all times. Why would anybody want to behave like that if they really had a choice? Who wants to be the family member who ruins every event and who upsets everybody? Maybe really a decent person is not going to choose that.
