Scary Ghost Stories
Jack Wilson: The internet meme is that these Jewish writers knew nothing about Christmas. He says they put scary ghost stories into the lyrics because they had no idea what actually happens at Christmas other than what they gleaned from the outside. Dickens's Christmas Carol was not alone. It was part of a tradition of telling ghost stories at Yule tide, he says.
