The Paradox of Craving
Buddhism says craving is an unskillful and clinging attachment that comes from ignorance of the true nature of reality. Craving as natural as it may be needs to be separated into two overall categories, what we could call skillful craving versus unskillful craving. Skillful craving aligns with wisdom, compassion, and a balanced understanding of one's self and one's needs. And it leads to actions that are ultimately beneficial and alleviate suffering. For uns killful craving, on the other hand, it's driven by ignorance, attachment, and aversion, those three poisons, and it tends to perpetuate greater suffering.
