Is There a Difference Between Aging in the Brain and Damage Accumulation?

There's a certain level of plasticity that's inherent to how the brain works. And so that plasticity will compensate to a large extent for this accumulation of damage and for the loss of complexity in neuronal connections. So if you look at old brain cells, the neurons in the brain, they look very different than young brain cells. But the nature of how they work is still very plastic.
