The Importance of Softness in Lighting

Softness is all about the size of the source and if it is small, it will always look like a hard small source. In real movies you see diffusion being 12 by 12 feet or 20 by 20 feet. The diffusion is huge when you want it to look natural and really soft. And we definitely would want a big reflector.
