The Cockpit Voice Recorder Breaks in an Accident
The cockpit voice recorder suffered only light impact damage in the accident and showed no evidence of smoke residue or heat damage. When they opened it up, they realized that the tape was broken. They said that the tape that it recorded on was like a plate of spaghetti. It had all become unspooled and was just loose everywhere inside the cockpit voice recorder. The duration of the recording indicated only normal flight information until about 95 seconds before the loss of information.
