Can AI Really Do a Lot of Good?
We are excited about seeing large benefits from AI, but we also want to work hard to minimize the enormous risks advanced AI systems pose. For example, data used to train neural networks often contains hidden biases which can lead to racist and sexist behaviour. But just because something can do a lot of good doesn't mean it can't also do a lots of harm. We have limited time in our careers, so choosing which problem to work on could be a huge way of increasing your impact.
