The Jubilee Law and Its Importance
The law was designed to discourage the establishment of a gulf between rich landowners and a poor landless class. Economic practices were tempered by prohibitions unusury and predatory dealings. One of the purposes of the jubilee, for instance, was to insure that people were not alienated from their ancestral lands. In leviticus, chapter 25, verses 23, forty two, the land shall not be sold in perpetuity.
