The big thing to understand about proton radiation versus photon or X-ray is that when we think about using these radiation modalities, these radiation oncologists and physicists phase the radiation. With proton therapy, you get something called a quote unquote brag peak, meaning that you have a small amount of radiation dose delivered until you reach the tumor then there's a rapid drop off. So in theory less toxicity to surrounding structures so proton therapy,. more radiation to the tumor volume itself with less side effect to the surrounding tissues due to the radiation dose escalation very quickly and deescalation very quickly as it exits the patient's body.
