Getting Rid of Elections Is a Sign We Are Not a Democracy

Election are not only a source of legitimacy, and these regimes would like to have legitimacy so they don't have to resort to coercion. Through elections, the regime knows the true outcome. It knows its weaknesses. It knows what people want, where they want. And on top of all, president puttin inherent inherits an electoral regime. So getting rid of elections is virtually impossible. The idea is to keep constraining elections.
