The Libyan Coastguard Is Running Its Own Detention Centers
These are thinly veiled vehicles for extortion. People are detained there under the pretence of having violated emigration law to secure their release. They're made to phone up their families and their home countries and have them money while they're in detention. It's also a very dangerous environment for the migrants who are kept there. There is ample evidence from groups like amnesty international and human rights watch of migrants who have been beaten, tortured, even killed at these detension centers. Obviously goes without saying that all this would be very illegal if it were happening in europe, but it's not. Its happening in libya. And the eu Has said that it has no authority over these groups operating
