President Biden and the Republican Speaker in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, are due to meet for talks today. The challenging thing now, as ever, is that there needs to be an agreement between Democrats and Republicans that would allow the Treasury to resume borrowing cash. This time around, what makes things more difficult is that American politics have grown increasingly polarized.

Today, the president will meet with the Republican leader in the house of representatives to try and prevent the country from defaulting. But what if they cannot come to an agreement?
