Introduction

During the Blitz and through to the end of the war, deep-level tube stations of London Underground were utilised. In 1939, the station platforms were never expected to seek civilian sleeping there but rather they were to be kept clear for emergency transportation use. The first raids on London are of Zeppelin raids, about 1950. An awful lot of the systems you see today in aerate defence or aerate are already there in 19 in the First World War. Early detection, people looking out for an autofu- getting ready for aerate, a warning beforehand. All the things we take which become later, First World and Second World, that's already in there.
