New York City and the US Housing Crisis
An Atlantic article says the U.S. needs 75 million more housing units in order to combat high housing costs and make them affordable for all incomes. The author cites stats that 47% of Americans are spending more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities. She also talks about how New York City creates more jobs every year than homes, but issues fewer housing permits per year now than did it earlier in the century.
