When people are going into their manic phases they'll seek a substance to try to self-medicate which only enhances the phase that they're going into. They can also go into states where there's a I've known bipolar people that just get in the car and drive for like 18 hours in circles basically on a highway and don't even remember how they did it or what they where they went or what happened.
