The Importance of Choosing Your Teachers

The advice is choose your teachers. Norman Rockwell talked about how George Bridgman had us draw hundreds of skulls in various positions and we thought I thought he was overdoing it at the time. But now I see how whenever I paint a portrait, I am instinctively aware of the skull beneath the skin. So he was kind of griping when he was a student about this is too hard. But he saw that it was good for him.
