The Clarion Clipperton Zone in the North Pacific

There are billions of tons of polymetallic nodules in the sea. The largest deposit is around what's known as the Clarion Clipperton Zone. Naru, a Pacific island nation, submitted an application to mine that zone two years ago. International Seabed Authority was created to set regulations governing how those resources could be exploited. More than two decades have passed without a final agreement on commercial mining. If they can't agree on anything, commercial applications for deep sea mining could be given the green light.
