Do You Need Design Education to Break Into the Design Industry?

I'm working on a mentorship program which is more than a UX course and more than a bootcamp I hope because it will offer this side-by-side presence of a mentor that will help people actually feel guided when breaking into the industry. It's impossible to be a designer and grow as a designer if you don't educate yourself in whatever manner, whether formal or informal education. In some countries diploma might be just still important part of the bureaucratic system so sometimes unfortunately few countries I've heard would require diploma from you but IT or in general tech industry is constantly looking for new people and smart people.
