The Lawsuits Moral Panic

Americans file 18 million lawsuits a year, but that also includes like custody claims. It's true that the number of lawsuits was roughly 18 million in the 1990s and is now 15 million. Only 7% of lawsuits are really about torts at all - only 3% result in punitive damages. We created a system where Americans have to use the legal system in order to get kind of basic compensation. And then we stigmatize them using a system that is really their only option.
