The book is about the ethnic cleansing of Germans from Eastern and Central Europe after World War II. People were rounded up based on German ethnicity or having been heard speaking German on the streets. The Allied countries have preferred to forget this chapter, but it goes to show what happens when you start to think in terms of collective responsibility.
