The Logic of Rebellion
Professor Bailin has an entire chapter called The Logic of Rebellion, where he explains how Americans brought themselves to revolution. He says they had these signals of what the growth of an autocratic society was and their experiences in the period from 1760 to 1775 were to note those movements. This led them to convictions that a conspiracy on the part of the British government was developing,. That took hold of their minds. They were not paranoid. I mean, nothing's psychologically wrong with these people. They were being very rational but they themselves believed that the signs of autocracy were there being hidden. It was a conspiracy at work.
