The Rise of the Visigoths in Spain

The Visigothic kingdom remained in Nabo which lies about halfway between modern Marseilles and Toulouse. This meant that Gothic land owners deep in the south of Spain saw very little of their king. The Goths protected their Aryan faith and saw it as part of their identity as a conquering people. To the Catholic Romano-Iberians this remained heresy and so increased the gap between ruling foreign elite and ruled native people.
