Hesiod's Metamorphoses
Hesiod was among the first figures in literary history to ever say anything about himself. He took disparate strands of ancient Greek legend and wire them together into a single story, Theogony. Ovid's Metamorphoses epitomized Roman literature's centuries-long effort to enfold and synthesize Greek cultural traditions that had come before it.
