The 19th century was born of a massive cataclysmic all-encompassing war. It's no longer just about taxes and parliaments, it's about the meaning of human dignity in societies rapidly transformed by the Industrial Revolution. Series 6 on the Revolution of 1830 sits on the dividing line between Part 1 and Part 2 of the podcast. But mostly what the revolution of 1830 means to me is that it's when the Lafayette book snapped into place.
