Jim Bowie and the Governor of Texas, Vera Mindy

Jim Bowie became friends with the Mexican governor of Texas, a guy named Vera Mindy. He signed a dowry with the Vera Mindy family, promising to pay his wife more than $15,000 in money and property that he absolutely did not have. So Jim and his new wife were married on April 25, 1831. She was 19 years old and he was 35 years old, although he listed his age as 30 on the marriage certificate.
