A work which resembles another is entitled to copyright protection. So long as the similarities in those two works are not the result of illicit copying. Ideas cannot be copyrighted. Only the way that you've expressed those ideas can be protected. Facts, which are not created, but are merely discovered are similarly not entitled to protection.
