Lizzy was asked why she liked the man so much. She replied that he had complimented her on being 'five times as pretty' Jane said: You are a great deal to act, you know, to like people in general. All the world is good and agreeable in your eyes - I never had you speak ill of a human being in my life. Elizabeth listened in silence, but was not convinced. Their behaviour at the assembly had not been calculated to please in general. They were proud and conceited; rather handsome with a £20,000 fortune.
