The book is supposed to be a guide to Lacan through popular culture, right? So it's a staging of the theory. With looking at why, it's paradoxical because rather than seeing an object in the common sense or immediate way or doxor understanding of something, the like Wilbur saying the inconsistencies and contradictions are revealed. It's aspects of the object that an ordinary or immediate perspective represses.
