The Bible Is Not the Ultimate Authority
The Bible does not exist in a vacuum. It's constantly changing and it's just an inevitability that we have to negotiate with the text. The tradition is the ultimate authority. Whatever your group decides is best for the group is theultimate authority. And so if Walton can make an argument that is semi-plausible, most of the readership will be like, "Hooray! We got it right"
