The Southern Nurse's Story

Her family was one of those families that was literally split between the north and the south. Elizabeth wanted to be a nurse, but Lieutenant Todd rejected her on the grounds that these union prisoners don't need the likes of such a proper southern lady taking care of them. So she went above his head. Eventually she got permission from the Confederate Brigadier General to bring books and gifts and food to the prison.
