I think one thing that Solzhenitsyn and Voglin have in common is they both hold on to a very unfashionable notion in the intellectual world and the academy today. They're also critics of every form of progressivism, the idea that human nature can fundamentally change. It's one reason why 20th century European totalitarianism collapsed but I said God's grace is stronger than ideology. So human beings can, we can transform our condition or nature, we can't build the kingdom of heaven and earth, but we can hold on to hope," he says.
