How to Use a Reference Monitor in a Recording Studio
In a control room when you're playing back your music you don't want that sound coming out of the speakers to bounce back at you in a way that changes the quality of that sound. There are little extra touches you could put in a control room that absorbs certain frequencies like with you said certain materials will absorb certain frequencies better there are things you might put in the back corners of the room that fill up a corner where two walls meet called bass traps. Another thing that's really important in these control room settings is where the monitor speakers are placed so what you might do is have an engineer go in there and use a device that measures the way frequencies bounce around the room.
