Is There a Bog Standard for Charitable Status?
Independent schools cover a whole range of schools from the most famous, eat and harrow Winchester down to schools that are run on a shoestring. We are not talking just about schools for the super rich. The VAT issue is an interesting one - if you are paying school fees, you are still paying your normal taxes. But I think the point of VAT is the most interesting. There is political posturing here rather than a real argument about raising school standards. That 1.5 billion to be blunt is a drop in the ocean if we really want to level up all schools.
