The first question you should ask yourself when you're thinking about back end is: What type of application do you want to build? Almost every large company is going to have their own back in set ups with some complex logic. And learning those fundamentals, like you can't go wrong learning bout sequel, because i's bent around for forty, 50 years at this point or something - still use all over the world.
