Joshua the Jeremy Renner to Moses' Matt Damon

Joshua is self-consciously living out a sequel to what has happened in Moses' life. He believes himself to be picking up the same story. The way that the conquest is described is the same way as Moses uses to describe the defeat of the Egyptians and God's deliverance of Israel in the Passover. Joshua intentionally referencing and quoting particularly Deuteronomy, presenting himself as the first installment in a line of prophets like Moses.
