Is History Relevant?
Timothy Stanley: It seems to me that two contradictory conclusions can be made about history here. One is that history is therefore not some boring, dead subject is more relevant than ever. And at the same time, this actually makes history irrelevant because we are trapped in narrative battles and it doesn't matter what actually happened or why it actually happened. So how do you think about these sort of these sort of dual sentiments which kind of collide with each other? He says there has never been a time when history was apolitical.
Society cannot be designed in a top-down way. Central planning was a historic blunder that harmed India -- even though it was conceived by great men with good intentions.
