Introduction
A boy and his father stand on a sloping hillside, digging their crop of sweet potatoes. They watch as strangers round up the bewildered villages with guns. The visitors before took only food and fresh water, never the people themselves. Rapa Nui have lived on this island for a thousand years without needing or wanting to leave. It's their home, their culture, their world. But right now they can't be sure that's enough to protect them.
