The Politics of Domestic Violence

The striking thing to us is that there are Republicans and Democrats in the state legislatures across the country that are trying to address domestic violence. In Wisconsin, for example, they sort of work out a deal between the coalition against domestic violence leaders, state legislators, and the National Rifle Association after a particularly heinous domestic violence motivated mass shooting. But another state like Georgia can't get anywhere with that kind of bill. And so is that because Georgia and Wisconsin are so very different in their desire to protect women? I mean, that's something that we try to get at in this book, but we know that we have to do further exploration.
