The Refusal of a Call to Adventure in a Story

Any good scene needs conflict. If there are no obstacles to the character accepting the call, then the plot itself isn't likely to be very interesting. Usually this resistance, slash refusal, will originate with the protagonist. But it is totally possible for the refusal to be represented by a character other than the protagonist. In some stories, it makes the most sense for the protagonist to be an immediate yes to the call.
