The Fundamental Concept Behind Cross Matching
Cross matching is the process of taking a patient's blood and mixing it with anticipated donor blood. You're trying to see, is there a reaction? If there's no reaction, then there's a good chance that the patient will be fine. But if there is a reaction, it's better that you caught it in a test tube for lack of a better term than once it's already transfusion to the patient. We have something called an electronic cross match where the computer instantaneously does this for us.
