The Romans Didn't Write Things Down
The Romans were unusual and they did write things down, not just the Celts. I think the almost obsessive nature of recording things makes the Romans different. The difficulty, as you say, is that there's nothing on paper. But why do we always trust things on paper? Who would look at the sun newspaper as a reliable record of anything? That's getting away from the... No, it's not. Well, actually, lots of people, he thinks, to really, in fact, the Egyptians wrote things down,. Greeks wrote things down, the Romans wrote things down - but the Celts didn't. We're reduced to always making comments about the Celts from the outside.
