The liberalization of credits, started by rappers, has even spread across genres. In the second wave career of guitarist Carlos Santana at the turn of the millennium, he took lead credit on a string of top ten hits. Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas, singer-songwriter Michelle Branch, and Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroger all received featured credits with Santana in the lead.
