The Koran and the Mohammed Teachings
Mohammed and the koran preach a equality, but not strict equality, between men and women. Men were considered to be supreme over women within families and households. Mohammed tried to create more status and protections for women than had existed before in arabia. He put a limit on four wives per man, and he preached that a men should generally marry widows and older women who need economic support and protection.
