The first astronaut in space to spacewalk was a cosmonaut. "There's no economic benefit in the moon, right? Like the economic benefit of sending people to the moon was essentially a benefit of winning the space race," he says. Once they had a cosmonauts to a spacewalk, they moved on to the next challenge.
