The Trial, the Kidnapping of William Morgan
David Cade Miller had staked in a printing press. Morgan's landlord, John David's, another man named Russell Dyer, entered into a $500,000 penal bond with Morgan to guarantee its publication. At first, the local Batavia Lodge made their distaste and objections to Morgan publicly known by publishing an advertisement denouncing Morgan in the local newspaper. They denounced him for breaking his Masonic word by authoring the book.
