Sherman is the antithesis of say like a Napoleon. He didn't believe that he was destined for greatness and so his success in life was a source of constant surprise to him. Sherman did this despite everyone's expectations, which i find much more impressive than mclellan who was probably one of our worst generals but later became almost sort of like a donald trump esque figure.
